The farmhouse sat on a wooded hill and was not using the views.
An inherited farmhouse, opened up to its hillside.
The owner inherited the family home and needed it to work for a growing family. The house sits on a hill with woodland all around it, and the site was not being used for what it had: the views.
The goal was to tie the inside of the house to the outdoors, and the answer is a wrap around porch. It runs the full width of the house on the view side and turns the corner, deep enough to furnish as a row of outdoor rooms: a dining table at one end, seating and a porch swing at the other, and doors from the house opening straight onto it.
An attached garage was added to the sloping site. It is set into the hill at the lower level, under the same dark metal roof as the new entry porch, and it gives access to a basement playroom.

A porch built for the view.
